Dear crafty reader,
Firstly, thank you from the bottom of my heart for being here with me on this writing journey of mine. I started this newsletter with the hope of (re)finding my creative voice and while I am still on this path, your support has certainly inspired me to keep going.
Secondly, I am floored that I have reached (just a little over) 100 subscribers! Substack, and the communities that have adopted me therein, have changed my life for the better. I have made so many new and nourishing friendships here, I feel very grateful.
A special shoutout to a generous and gracious group of you who make me feel accepted and appreciated every time I open up my Dashboard:
— as well the whole Macabre Monday Team —
and .Some of you are particularly busy, outside and inside of the Substackverse, and I still can’t believe how much of your time you give to little ole me. Thank you, everyone!
A small gift
Here is but a small token from me to you in celebration of this milestone. Numbers are numbers. 100 is an arbitrary number, I know. But what a great excuse to extend my thanks and to gift you a little something!
Some of you already know that The Boy and I are working on an album of “old timey” music.1 He has been instrumental at making a dream of mine come true. All of the songs on the album were written before 1970, I think. I learn to sing them but he, more impressively, learns to play them. Soon, he’s going to record, edit, mix, and master all of them like he was born to do it. He’s that talented.
It’s a long-term sort of project but here is a demo track of a song titled, “Cien años.” A version of the song from 1953 by Pedro Infante was the inspiration for our cover.
You can listen to me singing and The Boy playing below — I hope you like it.
And if you were curious, here is the original 1953 version:
This song has a lot of meaning in our family. It was one of my grandfather’s favorites. My Dad also asserts it’s in his top 5. Goodness knows I love it, too.
But then again, I’m old timey myself.
If we hit 200 subscribers here, I will have to think of something else to give you! Thanks, yet again, for being here with me.
Stay charming,
Because I have the soul of a 95 year old.
Beautiful! 💓
I love this so much! Beautiful! 💜
